Neil Morriss grew up in Waimea and graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in 1972. He attended Colby College and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1976. His first career was in banking where he was a loan officer with the Indian Head National Bank in Nashua and Concord New Hampshire. In 1980 he returned to Hawaii to run 550 acres of family owned macadamia nut orchard in South Kona. When the market for macnuts peaked in 1987 the orchard was sold. In 1988 Neil started NMI Super Office which offered desktop publishing and database services and copying. The first big job was printing the employee manuals for the opening of the Hyatt Waikoloa Beach Hotel. (The manuals had been printed but they were still on a boat) In 1995 Neil changed the name of the business to Waimea Instant Printing to better reflect the evolution of the business.
Matthew Pearce grew up in California and was a flight software programmer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory during the 1980s. In 1990 Matthew moved to Waimea and began offering layout, design and typesetting services. He is the current owner of the Waimea Gazette.

How to Prepare Your File For Printing
The first thing to do is determine the final size of your piece. Some common sizes:
business cards 3.5" x 2"
rack cards 4” x 9”
brochures 3.66” x 8.5”
(11”x8.5” folded in three)
newsletters 8.5” x 11”
(17”x11” folded in half)
Figuring out layout
The next step is to decide whether you want color or image right to the edge of the piece—Bleed. Adding a bleed means adding 0.1" to the final dimensions of your artwork. So if your final size is 3.5" x 2" then your bleed size should be 3.6" x 2.1".
Any text or important information should be well away (3/16” inch) from the edge of your piece (Live Area). Likewise, text or important images should be well away from folds.
Getting the color right
Once you've got the sizing and layout figured out, make sure that you change the color mode of your images from RGB to CMYK. The colors you see on the screen are usually not going to match exactly what is printed, but by switching color mode your computer can better display what the final printed piece will look like.
Canva has a lot of terrific templates
BeFunky is a lot of fun
Business Card Maker is easy to use
Adobe Spark is free to use (not often that adobe allows free anything)
When you send us files, they should be:
jpg or tif
Text layers must be rendered or converted to curves. Please be aware that high jpg or tiff compression results in a degraded image and/or blurry text - color and grayscale images should be at least 200dpi with little or no compression specified (largest file size)
Complex page layouts
If you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat, we suggest you set “Job Options” to “Print Optimized”.
If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat, there is a free pdf writer available at Cute (subject to change, look for “Free Writer”). Download the installation package and run both the “Converter” and the “Writer” installers. You should now have “Cute PDF Writer” installed as one of your printers: simply print from your program to create your document to this writer and save the resulting pdf.
Files brought in are processed in a first-come first-served basis, files emailed may be subject to order confirmation before printing so include your phone number with the email attachment.
